Stitches and Thrills

Since we moved to our new home 5 years ago, I am on the lookout for a smashing piece of original art. Although I still have some reservations of buying a work of art via the internet (spending a reasonable amount of money I DO want to 'feel' it in real life), one of the works of art in consideration is this one by Luiza Vizoli. Red Poppies Emerald Sunset I love the contrasts in it: between the metallic green and bright red. The cubist background vs the round petals. Poppies are my favourite flowers anyway. Brought to my attention by EFA (Etsy for Animals) team member Annette Tait of Dragon House of Yuen . Often people have the best intentions when taking a pet, but lack of knowledge results in unhealthy food, wrong housing conditions, etc. and too often ultimately homeless animals. Once again internet offers a trip down memory lane. On the Dutch tv-channel "/geschiedenis" they're broadcasting episodes from Götterdämmerung 2000 . A post-punk/wave/alternative music program from the early 80s (1982) with performances by such great (and then o so young) artists as Birthday Party, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Joy Division and Echo & the Bunnymen. And the most wonderful thing is they offer a live broadcast on their internet site: http://geschiedenis.vpro.nl/ (choose: TV Kanaal). Many thanks from Miss Delia who writes a column at Fierceandnerdy.com . She featured my pine scented sachet ornaments (of Alexander Henry's Loteria fabric). Among a lot of other talented Etsy sellers of course. She also mentioned getting your christmas cards organized, and I had just been doing that yesterday morning. (Due to a canceled dentist appointment I had a surprise spare hour I decided to spend useful). It's too early to send them yet, but every card is written and addressed and with a stamp on it. Sometimes I can be so well-organized I scare myself. But don't worry, it's probably just a phase.... =^x^=

Although 2 seperate events both evenings this weekend I saw a literature-meets-music performance. The first one on Friday evening was the 20th anniversary tour of De Kift . This Dutch band combines punk, brass band, scraping chorus singing with lyrics from literature. Often lyrics will go about lost loves, lost lives, despair and be filled with melancholy. Every song is a pearl. You can get an impression on their MySpace page . ========================================== Eventhough the Crossing Border festival was sold out this weekend there were too many people who missed the show of Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto : a performance based upon the medieval novel "The Ship of Fools" by Sebastian Brant (1458). The performance was a strong combination of electronic music, traditional music, video performance. It was a succesful day at the fair last Saturday. This is an annual fair at the Animal Shelter Stevenshage to raise some funds. it was my 3rd year at the fair now. I sold about the same as last year. Especially the cat toys and the upcycled calender gift bags were a hit! I also sold a few kitty hats. Dutch people don't like to stand out in a crowd to much. So here kitty hats are mainly seen as a childrens accessory. My international market is more women from 15- 35 and beyond. So the rest of the week I'm going to be busy to add all the new hats and scarfs to Etsy .
