DIY December - Day 1 - Sharing fun tips for a handmade jolly season.

I'm ba-a-ack! Back on the blogtrain, that is. Last months I have been busy, and so often thought: oh, this is something I'd like to blog about. But somehow just the thought of sitting at the PC made me tired. So, maybe one day I will tell you about the trip to Terschelling, the sewing lessons, the Westknits KAL (knit-along). But not today. This month I will share on a daily base lovely DIY ideas, kits, patterns, recipes and inspirations that will make you want to jump out of your chair and get creative. Last weekend I started to hang up some Christmas decorations. Since we are a cat household already for many years I have mainly unbreakable ornaments. But I realized that our 2 new enthousiastic furry felines, Dita and Moogie, would most likely even tear those down. So,here is a video I found on making a Christmas tree that is not only cat safe, but actual cat fun! How To Make a Cat Proof Christmas Tree! How do you make a cat proof Christmas tree? … Here'...

Fun idea: get creative with your holiday snaps

When on vacation in beautiful Florence (Italy) last week, I was inspired of sharing the holiday snaps in a fun way with my friends through Instagram and Facebook. The photos were tied together creatively by making a series of drawings and then cutting out the main shape. That way the background would become the pattern of the drawing. The cat theme popped up because we knew we were going to adopt 2 cats the day after we'd come back from Florence. =^x^= Unprepared as I was, we had to go paper shopping on our first day for some more sturdy paper. The 80grams I had with me was wind swept to easy. As one of the IG-comments suggests: it is also a very nice activity to do with children on vacation. Are you inspired? Share a link to your creative paper cutting holiday snaps in the comments section! #catwithaview from the Boboli Gardens. Grumpy Cat - door draft stopper

Image
Most of you will be familiar with the internet meme Grumpy Cat . I couldn't resist making my signature look-a-like "Boink The Cat" door draft stoppers to look like her. I bet she would be right grumpy if you used her as a sausage cat draught dodger . The first original door draft stopper was designed to resemble the cat Bonke (hence the name Boink The Cat): Bonke found new owners after being in Stevenshage animal shelter. 5 euro of every sold door draft stopper goes to this animal shelter in Leiden.

A cat, a heater and the planet.

As a cat you won't get 18 without getting a little streetwise. In human years Droppie would be in her 80s now, so you can imagine her expecting to be treated as such. Two years ago her health was getting worse due to kidney problems and she started to lose a lot of weigth. We tried to make her as comfortable as possible. However in wintertime our livingroom can be a bit chilly. My boyfriend and I usually put on an extra sweater, and personally I love a comfy blanket. Neither of us like the stuffiness and warmth of the air when the heater is on, so we save that for the really cold days. But a blanket wasn't enough for her royal highness Droppie. She would sit on the sofa, meow loudly while staring at the switch for the heater (I told you she is smart). And as we did feel sorry for her feeling so poorly we often gave in. I wasn't happy with the situation though. For one it made our energy bill more expensive, and more importantly I hate wasting energy. Droppie did try helping...
